Sheffield gifts set to be top of Christmas list
Whilst the recession has been responsible for the demise of UK high street brands like Woolworths and MFI, it has had an unexpected boost for a sector of the city's retail trade.
Demand for 'Made In Sheffield' Christmas gifts is at an all time high according to key suppliers with the variety of products on offer an estimated 50% up on last year.
Interest - both from people living in the city and ex-pats spread out across the world - has increased so much that The Moor are set to hold a special Christmas market next Sunday, November 29, where there'll be the opportunity to see and purchase the top selling Sheffield gifts for Christmas 2009 in one go.
Julie Wilson who is organising the market said: "More and more shoppers are now actively looking to 'buy Sheffield' as newer and more attractive products come on the market.
"It could be a sign of the times that people prefer to ensure their money stays in the local economy - the interest can only be good for Sheffield."
The top ten Sheffield gifts this year are:
- Shopaholics Book
- I love Sheffield Tote bag
- Charity unleashed booklet
- 22 views book
- The star Calendar
- St Wilfred's Clocks
- Full Monty DVD
- Little Sheff Hoodie
- Rialto Sheffield Coffee
- Sheffield Monopoly.
