First Ever Motorbike Show on The Moor

Bikes were the star of the show when leather-clad fans of all ages roared onto The Moor for its first Motorbike Show.

There were police bikes, classic bikes, superbikes and even sidecars lining up to catch the judges’ eyes. Competition was tough for the trophies up for grabs including Best British Classic Bike pre-1972, Best Modern Bike 1972 onwards and Best Custom Bike.

Sheffield Tigers Speedway Team put in an appearance and 17 year old British superstar rider Marcus Woodbine from Chapeltown showcased three of his bikes for fans.

Sandra Barley, centre liaison manager for The Moor, said, “We’ve hosted a car show for a few years now and it felt it was only fair to give their two-wheeled friends some space too.”

The event was organised not only to draw visitors to the shopping area but also to give safety advice to bikers.

Representatives from South Yorkshire Police and the Institute of Advanced Motorists were on hand giving information about how to stay safe on the county’s roads and encouraging riders to sign up for advanced training courses to improve their biking skills.

Sergeant Graham Sayner said, “Injuries to motorcyclists are far out of proportion to their presence on our roads. In South Yorkshire alone between 2005 and 2008 there were 515 crashes involving bikers that resulted in death or serious injury.”
