Take a trip down memory Moor

Local historian Ron Clayton will explore the history of Sheffield’s Moor from the Victorian era right up to the modern day’s planned redevelopment.

The free walking tour for all ages will start outside Atkinson’s at 2pm on Sunday 14 September.

Ron, who has lived in Sheffield for more than 55 years, will start his tour outside Atkinson’s and then lead the public through the ages of The Moor’s history. The tour will begin with the Victorian trading areas, moving through the Blitz, the 1970s and right up to the present day.

Ron Clayton said: “The Moor has always been a dynamic and vibrant part of the city, but very few people know the tales behind the area that we see today. Many of the buildings and streets have stories behind their names that the general public have never heard.”

Sandra Barley, Centre Liaison Manager for MoorSheffield, says: “The Moor has a fascinating history and it is something that more people in Sheffield should hear. I’m very happy to welcome Ron back and hope that many people come along to the tour that will be informative and fun – but we also want to hear people’s memories of the area too.”
