Fashion Show raised Thousands for Cancer Appeal
MoorSheffield hosted its third annual Valentine’s Fashion Show at the Plug yesterday 12th February 2007, and raised nearly £4000 for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal.
The exclusive show, hosted by BBC Radio Sheffield’s Trisha Cooper, saw the latest fashions from Moor retailers Debenhams, BHS, Melody, and Dorothy Perkins. Local independent designer Joanne also showcased bespoke designer-wear from her boutique shop, Yes Orange.
The show was opened by local DJ Becky Measures, whose own family has been touched by cancer and wished to support the cause.
Ladies were treated to a complimentary rose, chocolates and glass of bubbly on arrival, expertly given out by hunky firemen from Bluewatch at the Central Fire Station (who had to run to fight a fire during the show!) Two members of the Sheffield Sharks Locka Okoril and George Karras also made a star turn modelling unique body art creations by Sheffield’s Castle College hair, make-up and media team.
The collaborative show, which headlined the Love2B festival, saw many of the organisers and participants giving their time and services for free, meaning that the whole of the £10 ticket went directly to Weston Park. The show featured volunteer models, including two city centre ambassadors, Danielle Caruk and Mary Craig, and dancers from Hype Dance Company. The lighting was arranged by Diffusion Live and Hair 1877 offered their services in beautifying the models.
Sandra Barley, MoorSheffield Centre Liason Manager, says: “It was a really fabulous evening. Everything came together on the day - including the models rehearsing from scratch! - but everyone looked stunning and the evening was a big success. It’s really thanks to all those who gave their time and energy to support us and help us raise so much money for Weston Park”
Cat Newman from Weston Park Hospital says: “The show was a real community effort. It is really great to see people working together to raise money for their local cancer hospital”.
