Kids Safe Scheme

Kids Safe in Sheffield is a simple and effective scheme to reunite a lost child with their family as quickly as possible.

The Kids Safe Number is 0114 2734542

It’s easy for children to get distracted when it’s busy and panic can set in when they can’t be seen. The Kids Safe in Sheffield scheme was launched in the City Centre on 4th December. The scheme, which aims to reunite lost children with their family as quickly as possible when out shopping, will see all the shopping areas in the centre working together to promote child safety.

Parents who are concerned they can’t see their child will be able to ring a number, displayed in shops around the city centre and speak directly to an ambassador, who will have CCTV access and be able to notify their team. Parents are also encouraged to write their contact details on free wristbands, available at shop counters, so that they can be contacted if their child is found.

Kids Safe, sponsored by MoorSheffield, brings together a number of key organisations in the city centre, including Sheffield City Council, South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board and City Centre Ambassadors.

Leaflets detailing the scheme will be available around the city centre, with important information on how to keep children safe.

If you lose a child

  • Stay close to where you last saw them
  • Look for a Kids Safe sticker in shop doors and windows
  • Ring the number displayed and speak directly to an Ambassador

Wristbands

  • Pick up a free Kids Safe wristband from shops in the city centre and write down your contact details
  • Place the wristband around the child’s arm, so they carry your details with them at all times

Make sure your child knows what to do if they can’t find you:

  • Stop, stand still and look around. Don’t run about
  • If the child is in a shop, they should go to the nearest till point and talk to the shop assistant. Most shop assistants will wear uniforms or badges
  • If the child is not in a shop they should look for a Kids Safe window sticker or poster, go into that shop and talk to the shop assistant.

Take precautions

  • Put the Kids Safe hotline in your mobile phone 0114 2734542
  • Encourage your child to stay close to you
  • Use reins or wrist links
  • Carry an up to date photograph of your child
